Activism can mean different things to different people. It can
involve marching down the street with a sign, boycotting a business,
to something as simple (yet effective) as writing a letter to the
editor of a local newspaper. I encourage each of us to be an activist
and to be a voice who is heard instead of allowing a select few
decide life for all of us.
The
following links will take you to the websites of these organizations,
which support equal rights for all peoples, and will especially
support equal rights for gays and lesbians. I encourage you to
get involved in your community to support equality and write
your local newspapers in support of candidates and legislation
that
encourages equality. There are many great organizations out here,
and I will add additional links as time permits. Unfortunately,
I cannot list all the organization links and encourage you to Google
others.
Links:
• Human Rights Campaign -
The HRC is vocal about its desire for gays, lesbians, transgendered, and bisexuals
to have equal rights. A person can sign-up for their HRC meetup information local
to where s/he lives.
•
Gill
Foundation -
The Gill Foundation has cosponsored some TV ads that have aired
in several states, including Colorado. The commercials show real-life
lesbians or gay men who could potentially lose their jobs just
because
they are gay, yet they want to be out at work just like everyone
else. The website states, "Securing equal opportunity for all people,
regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."
•
COLAGE -
Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere supports children who
have gays or lesbians as parents. They work quite a bit with
PFLAG in lobbying for equality for all families.
• PFLAG -
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides
a method by which those who love a gay or lesbian person can
reach-out in its community to promote change.
