We
suffered a tough loss at the national level with Mr.
Bush getting four more years in office. Although it's been difficult
watching as this president has made a debacle out of the war in
Iraq, jeopardizing the lives of the precious women and men in uniform,
I see a light at the end of the tunnel in that there are only three
more years (?) left for this dictator (there are rumblings that
an impeachment would be in order for his wiretapping incident).
However, instead of focusing on his negative influence on America
and our
economy,
morale, and
international stand, we need to unite as a community
more than ever and hold
accountable
all
legislators
and elected officials to ensure
that women and LGBT individuals are being considered for equal
rights in all decisions being made.
"Women and War" provides
updates on women and their plight (or successes) in the war in
Iraq. The impact is far reaching, from the female soldiers serving
over in Iraq, to female co-workers helping pick-up the slack from
their reservist counterparts who have been deployed to Iraq, to
the partners of the soldiers serving in Iraq, and, of course, to
the Iraqi women and children.
I will focus primarily on the war in Iraq since
they have suffered tens of thousands of civilian
deaths during
Mr.
Bush's
war,
resulting
in
the innocent
killing of thousands of innocent women and children (and men)
on the streets
of Iraq
(Iraqis and Americans). Our focus after the unfortunate 9/11 tragedy
should have been to
target the terrorists who perpetrated that outrageous atrocity – going
after Al Qaeda and its forces. Instead, we (I say “we” loosely)
went after a dictator of a country who had no involvement with
our losses on 9/11 (as confirmed by the 9/11 Commission), and who
didn't even have the weapons of mass destruction, which this administration
used
to
justify
his
selfish
war. This site can also be found by browsing through "Women's
Studies."
"Other Political Fronts" will
list links to stories of interest regarding both women's issues
and LGBT issues as seen in politics.
