As Diverse As Women
Are Themselves
Women's studies can encompass a whole gamut of topics that are of
particular interest to women. I have focused on some of the ones
that are most pertinent to us today.
It seems that no matter how hard we try, we still do not have
equality with our male counterparts. In part that is due to our
willingness to keep silent about the topic. "Women's
Equality Update" discusses some of the inequities here in America and abroad.
I see the ever-growing popularity of men doing research for Women's
Health issues as a crisis for the welfare of all women and their
health. Although I am hoping to expand the information in this
website regarding this important issue, on the short-term, I have
found some good websites that can be used as good resources for
women
regarding
their health.
As part of my undergraduate studies at the University of Denver,
I took a few women's studies courses . . . one consisted of Women
and War. It was a fascinating, yet horrifying, look at the impact
of war on women. In our current situation with the war in Iraq,
this impact is felt by many women who are serving in our armed
services, by the partners of significant others who are serving
in the war, by women who work with reservists who have been called-up
to serve in the war, and by the Iraqi women and girls who are actively
involved in the day-to-day
fighting.
Last, but not least, I look at some Women's
Activist groups and
ways in which women can get involved in their local communities
to ensure their voices are being heard.
